On August 6, 2023, I, as the University Registrar of SIMAD University, had the honor of representing our esteemed institution as a delegate in a meeting with University Utara Malaysia (UUM). The purpose of this visit and meeting was to explore the possibility of collaboration between our two universities and to discuss potential areas of cooperation and partnership.
Moreover, I had the privilege of meeting with Associate Professor Dr. Subramaniam Sri Ramalu , who serves as the director of Postgraduate Studies at the College of Business, UUM, along with professors and staff members from the college. The College of Business at UUM comprises five schools, namely the School of Business Management (SBM), Islamic Business School (IBS), School of Economics, Finance and Banking (SEFB), Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz School of Accountancy (TISSA), and School of Technology Management and Logistics (STML).
During the meeting, I provided a brief overview of SIMAD University in Somalia, highlighting the undergraduate and postgraduate programs offered by our institution. Similarly, UUM presented their own programs, with a specific focus on their postgraduate courses in.
The primary focus of our discussion was exploring potential collaboration between SIMAD University and University Utara Malaysia.
We explored several areas for collaboration:
- Research and publications
- Accreditation programs for our university
- Academic program development
- Student exchange programs (Mobility)
Furthermore, our discussion focused specifically on accreditation programs. University Utara Malaysia (UUM) has an AACSB accreditation center that helps other local universities in Malaysia. They have expressed their commitment to supporting us in obtaining accreditation for our domestic programs, particularly for the faculty of management, accountancy, and economics programs at SIMAD University in Somalia.
In conclusion, the meeting was productive, and both SIMAD University and University Utara Malaysia expressed enthusiasm for exploring further possibilities of collaboration. The potential partnership between the two institutions believes promising prospects for fostering academic growth, cultural exchange, and research advancements. Moving forward, the next stage will involve more collaborative discussions between the respective offices and centers to work towards achieving a signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between these academic institutions.
